We can only grow up in Christ when we ride on the wings of the Holy Spirit and habitually wait on the Living God. Hence, we need the Holy Spirit to open Isaiah 40:28-31 and enable us to understand the act of waiting and its benefits.
“Have you not known? Have you not heard, the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, does not faint nor is weary? There is no searching of His understanding. He gives power to the faint and to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths will faint and be weary and young men will utterly stumble, but they that wait upon the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings as eagles [Ps. 103:5]. They will run and not be weary. They will walk and not grow faint.” – Isaiah 40:28-31
Simeon and Hanna, as described in Luke 2:25-38, lived waiting for the birth of Christ with the latter waiting on God day and night with prayer and fasting. Glory be to God who enabled them to wait faithfully on Him to see the Redeemer of the whole world born in their generation. Waiting can be boring if you do not know how to do it; threfore the act of waiting makes a life of waiting glorious and rewarding. You need to know that God’s remnant these days as ever before are also waiting for the full manifestation of the glory of God at this end time. By His grace, I am sold out to the will of God for a life of waiting to welcome Christ the Lion of the tribe of Judah.
As Isaiah 40:28-31 declares, we need to know and reverence the Person upon whom we are waiting. Personal knowledge of Him as our Father is imperative. The Lord Jesus Christ has no doubt lavished His love on us and loved us eternally. [Isa.9: 5, Jer.31: 2] To Him be glory for ever and ever. AMEN. I love to say, that He is my Father and that I have confidence by the blood of Jesus Christ to come into His Presence to adore Him with all my heart, reclining in His bosom. Lord Jesus, I long for You and love You, because, You first loved me and redeemed me. Take all the Glory LORD. You are highly exalted, O King of Glory! I encourage everybody reading this material to have intimate relationship with the King of Glory.
The Psalmist says, “Who satisfies your old age with good things, so that your youth is renewed like eagle’s!” In Proverb 30:18-19, we learnt that the “mystery of an eagle in the air.” is one of the mysteries of the universe. It is so educating to understand how an eagle will soar higher than every other bird without flapping her wings. Ern Baxter in his article on life on wings, said, “An eagle has two sets of eyelids. With his earthly eyelids he can see perfectly well at ground level, or he can roll down his heavenly ones and play in the glaring glory of the sun.” You know what ! by the sovereign act of God, an eagle waits patiently on a very high mountain to discern the appropriate current of the wind on which to mount and soar effortlessly to bask in the glory of the sun. He does this in order to gaze long enough on the bright shining sun; far beyond the view of the naked eye. I can see why Christians are likened to eagles. We also have two sets of eyes, which are, the natural eyes to behold the natural world; and the spiritual set of eyes to behold the heavenly realm where we belong. These sets of eyes enable us to behold the Sun of Righteousness, the Creator of the Universe, the LORD of Glory. Sadhu Sundar Selvaraj also gave an illustration that when an eagle is getting old, he goes through the molting session, when he starts to loose feathers, claws and strength. The next thing he does is to fly to a very high mountain before he becomes too week to do so. There, he lifts up his feathers as he stands on the rock without any obstruction to gaze directly at the sun without blinking for weeks until all his feathers, claws and beak drop. At this time, he becomes so ugly to behold and too weak to fly or feed himself. In this critical condition, he can die if there is no aid from older eagles that had gone through the experience. As he is glued to one position gazing at the bright shining sun, older experienced eagles start to bring tid- bit for him to be fed. Gradually, he starts to receive new strength and his feathers start to grow again. His claws and beak also start to grow until he reaches full potential of new strength to soar again and get his prey. This is how God ordained it for eagle to renew his strength when necessary, as long as He wants him to live.
In the same vain, God does not want Christians to be feeble but full of divine energy as they habitually wait on Him to renew their strength daily to do exploit to the glory of His name. I am always lifted by the testimony of the Psalmist about the Israelites. He says, “He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes.” Psa.105: 37. The secret was that they were over shadowed by the Glory of God 24/7 during the wilderness wandering. The secret of this extraordinary living by the eagles and God’s people is waiting. Hence, I implore you to learn to wait on the King of Glory.
Let us therefore consider four Hebrew words used to describe “wait” in the Bible.
- Daman means to stand still. For instance, Psalm 46:10 commands, “Be still and know that IAM God…” May God deliver us from restlessness in the name of Jesus Christ.
- Damiyah means to wait in silence. Original translation of Psalm 62:5 says, “My Soul be then silent unto the LORD, remain still in the Presence of the LORD, stop what you are doing and seek the LORD.”
- Qavah means be gathered together in oneness. Genesis 1: 9
-
- A striking departure from the normal order of things.
- An observable phenomenon effected by the direct operation of God’s power.
- An arresting deviation from ordinary sequence of nature.
- A temporary suspension of some natural laws.Chakah means to wait earnestly with a loving expectation [anticipation] – Psalm 130:6. It is used to express expectation, when used as a verb. Luke 12:36, Acts 10:24, II Thessalonians 3:5. Each time we come to the presence of God, we should be full of expectancy that something wonderful will happen. Wonder in this sense is:
- It also refers to the faith of believer who is ready to listen to God and who is confident that God will speak to him; and that he will see a demonstration of God’s power. Psalm 33: 20 Romans 8: 19
The priority of our call is to minister unto God. This means we are to learn to wait on Him to know what He has to say and what He wants us to do before doing anything. For an example, in the restaurant, a waiter waits on you to know what you want to eat before ministering to you. The LORD JESUS commended Mary for choosing to wait on Him to listen instead of much ado about the temporal food that Martha was preoccupied with. The LORD is waiting for us to fulfill this scripture that says, “But the one who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.” – 1 Corinthians 6: 17. When you wait before God, all that is within you becomes one with Him. When we seek Him with all our heart, we will find Him and receive the expected end. The expected end is to,
- renew our strength.
- run and not be weary.
- walk and not faint.
- mount up with wings like eagle.
The word ‘renew’ actually means ‘exchange’ in the original language. Hence, as you wait on God, your weakness, ugliness, stresses are exchanged with the strength of God, just as eagles maintain their youthful strength by going through molting process. Waiting is always a time of refreshing from the presence of God. It is a time of soaking in fresh anointing and glory of God. Amazingly, all manner of miracles take place at such awesome periods with the Most High. Moses continuously changes his body by habitually waiting on God. Psalm 92:10, Exodus 24: 15-18.
For one to run and not be weary means that you will not carry out God’s assignments with the arm of the flesh – sweating and burning out. Supernatural wisdom, knowledge and understanding will always be available to do the Lord’s biding without stress. In God’s presence, you receive Rhema to give solutions to problems.
One needs food to have energy to walk all the days of one’s life or else one will be weak, weary and faint. In the same vain, one needs supernatural food for our walk with God. The supernatural food is the Word of God and is obtainable in the presence of God, as we wait on Him. Jeremiah the Prophet said, “Your words were found and I ate them, and Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart, for I am called by your name, LORD God of Hosts.” Jere.15:16. When daily. We find and meditate on both the written and Living Word of God,our inner man is renewed and the fire of the Holy Spirit keeps burning in our hearts. As this life style is maintained, one cannot burn out. Above all, there is no doubt that the Israelites ate the food of angels during their wilderness wandering. Elijah also enjoyed the luxury of been fed by an angel of the Lord for his journey of forty days to Horeb, the mountain of God – 1 Kings 19: 4-8.
To mount up with wings like eagles means, to have deep spiritual experiences. I cannot wait to discuss it in my next write up. Remain blessed in the name of Jesus Christ.
